With great sadness we announce the passing of Harold Dickson on Wednesday December 15. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys, his brothers Earl and Burton, Sisters Susan, Maye, Dorthy and Verne, and is survived by his son Brian (Janet), Grandchildren Erica (Arron), Karl (Rhonda), Step-Grandchildren - Phoebe (David) and Family, Patricia, Derek (Shanna), numerous Nieces and Nephews and many friends and acquaintances
Born the community of Napan New Brunswick and married to Gladys in 1954 he ran the family farm until 1967 when we travelled to the West Coast. Dad believed that travel was the great educator and it was always a focus in his all life. He loved "Snowbirding" with Mum in Yuma Arizona during winter and trips to Northern BC and the Yukon's Midnight Sun in summer as well as trips to the Maritimes, visiting Family and friends along the way. Able to find common ground in conversation with anybody he met whether it was at a campsite or coffee shop he often found the next destination for his travels. His career as a Bus Driver complimented his love of travel and the people he met and he led by example for any who worked with him. Known for his patience and giving nature. After 30 years of retirement many of his clients now span from middle age to retirement. He gave time in his retirement to Cornerstone Thrift store for many years repairing items that needed " a little Fixing " .
In his final years he was known for the extraordinary amount of walking he did, whether at Bob Daily Stadium or headed crosstown to Alberni Mall .
A heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Meyer and the team of Doctors and Caregivers at West Coast General Hospital and AV Homecare (Kelly, Tonya) for trying to return Dad to his mobile self. Also to the Staff at VI Public Library who enriched his life in later years with help navigating computers / internet and his favourite authors. A graveside service at a future date will be held at Pine Grove in Miramichi, New Brunswick .
