Following a brief illness, Harold passed away peacefully in his sleep at West Coast General Hospital on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at 86 years of age.

Predeceased by his brother Fred and sister Isobel, he is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marguerite “Peggy”; children: Terry (Mel) and Wendy Gornall (Rob); grandchildren: Chris, Raylene Pace (Corey) and Stephen; great grandchildren: Hayley, Cassidy, Colton and Carter; nephew Rick Lord (Dor) and niece Barb Johnston (Pete) as well as numerous other relatives.

Harold was born in Port Alberni and raised at Bishop Landing on Sproat Lake. He lived at Sproat Lake his whole life and was a volunteer firefighter with the Sproat Lake Fire Department and served as chief for over 30 years. He had a well-developed, dry sense of humour and was devoted to his family. Harold worked as a steam engineer for the Paper Mill, drove for several trucking firms and then Woodward’s and also worked for a time at Evitt Electric.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Alberni Valley United Church, 3747 Church St. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and the team of doctors along with all of the nurses and staff who helped Harold through the end of his life. The care that he and our family received has been overwhelming and beyond our expectations. “Thank you!”
