In loving memory ~
Just a few days after her 94th birthday, we were all feeling incredibly sad to say goodbye to our dearest mom, Helen.
She passed away peacefully and without pain in her final years at the Evergreen Seniors home in Campbell River, BC.
Sadly, she was preceded by her loving husband, Arnold, who passed away in June 2023.
Helen was born in Fernie, BC, to Michael and Carolina Kumorek. She was the only daughter of six children and sadly, all of her siblings, Mike, Waddy, Johnny, Frank, and Eddy Kumorek, have all passed away. Helen moved to Port Alberni from Fernie in 1949 to work and there, she met and married Arnold Bergquist on April 8th, 1950. Helen was a kind and loving wife to Arnold for an incredible 74 years and a devoted mother to her four children: Wayne (Patricia), Garry, Louanne Ralston (Ed), and Tracey Burgoyne (Ken), and to her many grand and great-grandchildren.
Helen was a talented softball pitcher for the Somass Hotel women's team. She also enjoyed bowling and playing golf with Arnold, but her true passion was gardening. Arnold and Helen always brought joy and laughter to our family and friends at family and community gatherings.
After many years in Port Alberni, Arnold and Helen moved to Ucluelet, where they built a lovely home. Helen helped Arnold establish and run the Ucluelet Hardware & Building Supply Store. They then moved to Qualicum Beach, where they built several homes and eventually retired. Arnold and Helen's final move was to Campbell River to be close to three of their children.
