Herman Otto, of Courtenay, BC With deep and heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of a very dear husband, father, uncle, grandparent and friend. Born in Schambach, Germany on August 3rd, 1929. At the age of 23, Herman immigrated to Canada, to make his new home and life. After working in the mining industry for many years, he eventually retired from School district #71, in the maintenance department, in 1992. During his retirement he loved camping at Kitty Coleman Beach and Ralph River, BC. His love for old time music resulted in him becoming a member of Branch 17, North Island Old Time Fiddlers, where he enjoyed listening to their great music. He loved shing, walking, dancing and traveling the world (Germany, France, England, Spain, Ireland, Mexico and the USA). Several years ago he came down with Parkinson’s, which slowed him down from walking 5KM a day. He enjoyed family gatherings and traveled many years to Manitoba, to be with friends and family that he loved (sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends). Missing him dearly will be Doris (wife of 37 years), sons: Gord Weislein (Starr) and Michael Weislein; grand children: Slade, Lane and Fallon Weislein; Ritchie and Cody Magaton; step children: Corleen Naswell (Rick), Mel Lesopoy (Patti), Mitch Lesopoy (Karen), Lorelei Howard (Denis), Debbie Coutts (Darren); and many relatives in Germany. He is pre-deceased by daughter Irene Magaton (nee Weislein). Herman leaves many good friends in Courtenay. As per his wishes there will be no funeral. A memorial gathering will be held at Kitty Coleman Beach (barbeque area), on Saturday July 16th from 1-4 pm. Bring your own chairs and memories. Music, light snacks and beverages provided. Special thanks to: Dr Thompson & sta ; VIHA sta & Nurses; Living Room Pharmacy; Glacier View Lodge and Views; Neighbors & friends; and Debbie Staples; for your loving care.
