November 10, 1936 - January 31, 2021
Gone way too soon, Jacquelyn Frances Morgan (Hopwood) passed away peacefully at home in Moses Lake, Washington at the young age of 64.
Born in Whitehorse, Yukon to Thelma Hopwood (Bowen), a mother who was ahead of her time in independence and adventure, Jaci grew up in the Yukon as well as Othello, Washington and graduated from Othello High School in 1974.
Jaci's adventures in her early adult years took her to Montreal and Vancouver, attended college at Malaspina in Nanaimo (now VIU) before settling down in Port Alberni to raise her daughter in 1983.
She loved having a great time with friends, whether it be on the ball field, tearing up the dance floor at the Arli, or spending time "cheating" at monopoly or crib with her daughter. She was often voted the most sportsmanlike player on the ball field, often preferring to run the bases barefoot when she could get away with it. Everyone loved her energy, her kindness was exuberant.
Jaci was a Jaci-of-all-trades, her career as a legal secretary was long, but her passion was working outdoors. She was small, but she was strong, working along men in the fishing industry, driving a forklift or tender boat, out at sea for weeks at a time. I know that her favorite times were at sea with Captain Howard salmon fishing, or working with her favorite site manager, Greg Foreman.
Jaci is pre-deceased by her mother Thelma Hopwood, her sister Beverly Fahie and is survived by her daughter, Jessie Hopwood, her brother and sister-in-law Gary and Susan McLaughlin, her Aunt/2nd mom, Arlene Reid, her cousins Russell Fahie, Lori Kultgen and Casey McLaughlin as well as many 2nd (and 3rd) cousins in Canada and Washington State.
Due to delays of Covid-19, there will finally be a memorial to celebrate Jaci on Saturday, July 17th at a private residence in Port Alberni, BC and once borders open, a memorial in Othello, Wa will follow. Jaci loved a good party, so having two to celebrate her life seems fitting.
