In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Nagypapa (grandfather) and wonderful friend, James (Jim) Imre Kocsis. He is survived by his 2 sons: Jim (Dana) of Penticton, and George (Elizabeth) of Armstrong and 2 grandchildren, Christopher and Carissa. He is predeceased by his loving wife Mary in 2015.
Jim was born in Csorna, Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1956. During the journey, he met his future wife, Mary Farkas, and they were married in 1957. Jim and Mary settled and raised their family in Port Alberni, where Jim worked at the Somass Division of MacMillan Bloedel for over 40 years.
He was an avid bridge player and achieved LifeMaster status in the 1970's. Jim took up golf in 1972, and 20 years later, he was the club champion at the Alberni Golf Club! As a testament to his commitment to golf, he also achieved 3 Aces during his career! In 2005, Jim and Mary moved to West Kelowna to be closer to their sons and grandchildren and enjoyed living at Sun Village.
In 2018, Jim relocated to the Missionwood Retirement Resort in Kelowna. Here, he gained friendships, community, and an unlimited supply of maple walnut ice cream! Jim enjoyed keeping up with tennis and curling and continued to play bridge until his final weeks. He inspired us to always do our best and will be remembered as a true champion in life.
