Jim passed away very suddenly at the age of 76 in Port Alberni. Survived by his daughter, Jamie, his son-in-law, Steve, his former wife and life-long friend Rhonda, and Jamie's brothers, Dylan, Cody (Carly) and their children Dallas and Tessa.
Jim was born in Vancouver and raised in Mission by his parents, Margie and Ed (also known as 'Del').
He had many fond memories of growing up in Mission, particularly ones involving mischief with his best
friend Ronnie, but also of the strawberry festival, soap box derby, Mt. Mary Ann, and the cave that he claimed he was raised by wolves in.
He moved to Alberta and lived for many years in the Wainwright and Czar area, where he started a family with Rhonda and later moved to Port Alberni.
Jim had all sorts of career ventures including managing drive-ins (KG Drive-In and many A&W locations), selling clothing (and giving away free shoelaces & polish) at Rex Cox Men's Wear, careers with Canadian Perforators and Superior Propane, running backhoes, truck driving & delivering, buying and selling antiques, starting and operating a local controversially named handyman company, and his favourite, mowing lawns. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and always quick to help anyone in need.
The family would like to thank everyone in Jim's life for their friendship and kindness to Jim, and thank his doctors, his pharmacist (and friend), and the first responders and ER staff at WCGH for their care.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of Jim, please give quality time, kindness, and patience to the people you love (and those you don't).
A celebration of Jim's life will be held in Port Alberni on Sunday, June 29th 2025 at 1:00 pm in the gym at Kackaamin, 7830 Beaver Creek Road. If you'd like to share photos, or if you're unable to attend but would like to share stories or letters, please email celebrationforjimdelrio@gmail.com
