In Loving Memory ~
Jean passed way on Monday, joining her husband Ted. They were married for 71 years.
She is survived by son, Rory (Lois), daughter Yvonne, grandson Ryan (Tracy), great-granddaughters Tiffany and Jessica, sister Linda (Pete) Geddes and their family - Darren (Patricia), Rick (Donna), Craig, Andrew (Kiesha), Natasha, Annabelle, Danika (Lee), and Jessie. She was predeceased by her husband Ted, and brothers Todd and Bernie Smith.
Jean was born in Portland, Oregon then came to Port Renfrew with her family in 1929. Later the family moved to Alberni arriving aboard the SS Maquinna. She grew up here and attended Eighth Avenue school. She met Ted in 1943 and they were married in 1944.
Together they raised their family, and raised Jean's younger sister Linda as well. They were avid 10 pin bowlers, participating in both league and tournament play. There was always a card game on the go. Later she took up golf and became very proficient.
When Ted retired they decided to move to Qualicum. There they enjoyed retirement, continuing to golf in Qualicum and bowl in Nanaimo.
Jean liked cooking and baking, making her own bread, cinnamon buns, and she made the best pie crust around! She loved to go for drives and was often popping up to Port Alberni to see family. To keep sharp she did jigsaws, crossword puzzles and followed politics and news.
To honour Jean's wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Heart and Stroke Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
The family would like to extend many thanks to Dr. McGillvary and the staff and volunteers of Dufferin Place in Nanaimo whose excellent care and activity programs made Jean's time there so comfortable and enjoyable.
