In loving memory ~
"The pain and trials are done.
There will be nothing but love and peace as we go forward hand in hand."
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Marjorie Gibson, of Gibsons B.C., on January 18, 2023, at the age of 84.
Joan was born to the late Joe and Elsie Gibson on October 25, 1938 in Port Alberni, B.C. Joan grew up in Port Alberni where she met and married Marvin Hansen, in 1955. They had four children together, who were raised in Port Alberni, Fort St. John, Abbotsford and in 1971 in Williams Lake, B.C. After Joan and Marvin divorced in 1978, Joan lived in various B.C. communities and retired on the Sunshine Coast in 2013. In August of 2020, Joan moved into Christianson Village and lived there until her passing.
Joan had an incredible loving, kind and generous heart and was very creative and talented. She loved to write poems, songs and listening to music and singing. Joan was a very spiritual person and devout Christian. She was an amazing cook, who so enjoyed cooking for her family. Joan was so proud of her family and they were all so important to her.
Joan is survived by her four children: Rick Hansen (Amanda) of Richmond, B.C., Brad Hansen (Jeannie) of Williams Lake, B.C., Cindy Moore (Geordie) of Williams Lake, B.C., and Christine Clayton (Ray) of Sechelt, B.C.; brother-in-law: Michael Kolada of Prince George, B.C.; nine grandchildren: Jena (Jeff), Alexis (Jarodd), Grant (Emily), Lauren (Blake), Emma (Aaron), Sharli (Paul), Alana (Ryota), Cassidy (Mat) and Rebecca (Trenton); six great-grandchildren: Isabelle, Grace and Luke, Everett and Atticus, Max and all of Joan's special nieces and nephews.
Joan is predeceased by her parents: Joe and Elsie Gibson, brother: Len Gibson (Fern), sister: Betty Kolada and her precious, 1st great-grandson: Reid.
Joan's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Reznick, Dr. Walter, the nurses, doctors, care aids and staff at Sechelt Hospital and Christenson Village, who cared for Joan with so much grace, compassion and love.
Joan's beautiful heart, smile and voice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private celebration of Joan's life will take place in Williams Lake, B.C. on May 13, 2023.
