July 22, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Joe Netzer. He fought a courageous battle with cancer that ended at home surrounded by loved ones on July 22, 2021.
Joe leaves behind the love of his life Jayne, children Ryan (Dacia), Todd, Britney (Brian), Brock (Niki) and grandchildren Austen, Caiden, Tori, Kieran, Blake, Spencer, Sienna and Emma. His Brother and best friend Eric (Anita), sisters Helena Hertel (Tommy) and Lili Wourms (Ervin), brother in law Scott Macready (Sharon), numerous nieces and nephews and many friends that felt like family.
Joe moved to Port Alberni from Austria with his family at the age of 5. He joined the Armed forces at 16 and then upon returning 4 years later worked with Coulson Forest Products until his retirement.
Joe enjoyed hiking, biking around on his 10 speed, mushroom picking, Friday happy hour with his logging buddies and all things firewood. His other retirement hobbies included Driving for Hertel's Meats, working in his garden, making homemade wine and operating the steam donkey with the J.J. Logging crew at Mclean Mill. If it was broken you taped it and if it was new you labeled it "NETZER 2021". Joe will always be remembered with a big smile on his face, sporting his suspenders and yellow toque.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Damien White, Missy Netzer, Dr Johnson and the Palliative Nurses.
