September 14, 1920 - December 5, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great grandfather John Duncan Campbell at 100 years of age.
Born Sept.14,1920 to Duncan and Eva Campbell, their fifth child that would become fifteen.
John is pre-deceased by the love of his life Annie (Abrahamson) in 1994, and loving daughter Janet Hamilton in the year 2000. John is survived by his son Daniel(Brenda), daughters Sherilyn McGillvrey, and Catherine(Ted) Gervais; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Also survived by brothers George(Ruth), Rodney(Beverly), Robert(Marilyn), and sister Leone(Alan); numerous nieces and nephews.
John grew up in the Quesnel area of B.C. where he enjoyed the bounty of nature that the outdoors had to offer. He learned to hunt and fish at a young age to contribute to the family table. John loved to skate and play hockey, snowshoe, cross country ski, and ride horses. He remembered at age 11 helping his father Duncan fall and prepare trees to build their log home in Quesnel, now a heritage site.
John had a strong work ethic and started his working life as a young teenager, experiencing trapping, mining, commercial fishing, and road building to name a few. But falling trees and logging became his life long profession, retiring at age 68.
Working along side his son Daniel was a source of great pride for him. John was an intelligent and articulate man, self taught in so many talents such as mechanics and carpentry. John was a man of strong values and morals, he took comfort in reading the scriptures. His family meant everything to him and was a life long teacher. John's story telling of life long experiences are legend!
John met and fell in love with Annie, they married Dec.6, 1947. They resided in Port Alberni and raised their family there. Many good times were had swimming, boating, skating and skiing. Big family dinners were commonplace. John always maintained close ties with his family in the Cariboo as well.
In Sept. 2018, John moved to Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville and resided there until his passing. We are grateful for the care, compassion, and companionship he experienced there.
There will be no service at this time. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate John's life will take place at a later date in 2021.
