July 1, 1922 - January 11, 2019
It is with great sorrow we say goodbye with the passing of John Melenchuk. He is survived by his loving wife Marie Melenchuk; his daughters Linda and Debbie; step daughters Suzanne and Claire; son-in-law (David Ryles) along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John was born in Canora, SK on a farm where he grew up. John served his country aboard the H.M.C.S Clayoquot as an Able Seaman, along with his shipmates who on Christmas Eve 1944 survived a torpedo hit and 40 minutes in the North Atlantic Ocean before being rescued.

His working years after the war were spent in gold fields in the Yukon, followed by a position as a foreman at Phoenix Pipe in Coquitlam BC. Later, he worked as a commercial fisherman with his wife Marie on their boat "Melbo" until they retired.

We would like to give special thanks to all the staff and Dr. Willams at the West Coast General Hospital. They showed such compassion and care for John during his difficult time. We would also like to thank United Cab for their excellent service to Marie as always which is very appreciated by our family.

A service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Port Alberni Legion Hall 4680 Victoria Quay, Port Alberni, BC.
