August 31, 1930 - October 29, 2021
In loving memory ~
Joe was born August 31, 1930 in Nakusp, B.C. and passed away October 29, 2021 in Port Alberni. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lea, his three children Karen, Linda (Gary) and Mitch (Karen), along with his six grandchildren Eric (Janice), Katrina, Julie (Chris), Jared (Amy), Ashlee (Dimitri) and Bailey (Darrell) and five great-grandchildren who will all miss him. Predeceased by Joe was Cory his son in law.
Joe spent his early childhood on the Arrow Lakes until his family moved to Port Alice. Then in the early 1950's his family made the move to Port Alberni and he worked construction for the pulp mill then continued his apprenticeship as a sheet metal man in the pulp mill. It was in Port Alberni that he met his wife, Lea and they were married in 1954. Joe worked for most of his working life as a tin smith except for a short stint at running "Joe's Service Station" before returning to the mill. After retiring early in 1989 he and Lea enjoyed travelling and exploring in their motor home from Alaska to Mexico and east to Nova Scotia. They also enjoyed trips to warmer climates Cuba, Mexico and Hawaii. Joe enjoyed the outdoors and time spent with family and friends.
To all those that crossed his path he said "Go slow and drink lots of water" not bad words to live by, don't rush life it gets too busy sometimes!
In lieu of flowers donations to the Alberni Valley Hospice Society at 2579 Tenth Avenue, Port Alberni, BC V9Y 2P5 would be appreciated. Due to Covid restrictions we will not be having a public service.
