It is with profound grief and sadness that we share the passing of our beloved, courageous, amazing, wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend Juanita
Juanita Anne Erickson was born in Port Alberni, B.C. on January 26, 1960, and was raised on Salt Spring Island. Sadly, she left us on January 9, 2023, at the age of 62 after a long and defiant battle with cancer. She fought valiantly with all she had, for all she loved. Her strength and mental fortitude inspired friends and loved ones, who will forever cherish the memories.
Juanita will be dearly missed by many. Husband, best friend, and joy of her life of 44 years Steve, Daughter Kara, Son Todd, and "bonus" daughter Tess. Her "faves", are grandchildren Deon, Ty, Coen, Trey, and Telise. She is predeceased by her mother Jacqueline Hembruff, along with too many others. She will never be forgotten by her many friends from Alberni to Parksville, to Salt Spring, to Hawaii.
The legacy of Juanita will be one of love, generosity, and fun. A consummate host, prankster, and life of the party. She was always ready and willing to help those in need. Whether it was a hug, a shoulder to cry on, or a delicious baked lasagna. If she cooked for you, you were loved by her. Her many ventures in the food service industry include Mom's Kitchen, Dawn Juans, Coast Catering, Carmoors Cookery, Coast Country Kitchen, and to this day Fresh Coast Market. Juanita was proud of helping start up the community school lunch program that fed countless children and continues to this day. Also close to her heart was the service of the seniors at Heritage Place. Juanita always made sure to bring fresh baking for the nurses at the cancer unit in Nanaimo, and save enough energy to bring Steve on another Costco run on the way home!
The Erickson family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to sisters Becky and Geraldine, as well as fave nurses Catherine and Colleen, Dr. Woodley and Dr. Johnsen.
A celebration of Juanita's life will be held at the Alberni Athletic Hall on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 1-4 P.M. In lieu of an open mic, the family will be providing a "share a story box' to share favourite memories.
