Savard, Junia Retta (nee Howland) passed away peacefully December 11th at her home in Port Alberni, BC. June is survived by her husband Edward, children Christopher (Keltie van Binsbergen), Ann and Robert (Andrea Morgan) as well as her grandchildren Andrew, Paige and Hope Savard, Nicole Arpink and Sebastien and Amelia Morgan-Savard. She is also survived by her siblings Ruth, Jean, Bob, Jack and Eric.
was born and raised in New Brunswick. In her early twenties she decided she wanted to see more of the world and joined the Air Force, working as an OR technician. She did several tours of duty in Germany and it was there that she met her husband, Ed. Together they visited many countries in Europe and often spoke fondly of their time there. In 1970 they returned to Canada and left the Air Force, settling in Port Alberni.
While the children were young June stayed home, but when they were older she went back to work, this time in the kitchen at Fir Park Village. She began as a dishwasher, moved on to cooking and finally became head cook after completing her professional cooking degree. She was an excellent cook and worked there for 26 years.
In her retirement years, June loved nothing more than to sit on the deck of the house Ed had built her, reading her books, drinking her coffee and listening to the wind chimes. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and shopping as well. The only things that brought her more pleasure were visits, phone calls and photos from her family.
A memorial service in Port Alberni is planned for Saturday, April 27th at 3 pm at Alberni Valley United Church.
