It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kirsten Dorthe Andersen on March 3, 2025 at the age of 97. She is predeceased by her parents Jorgen and Aase Callesen, husband Henning Andersen (2007), brother, Viggo Callesen, sister, Aase De Adder, and Nephew, Henning Callesen.
She is survived by her three daughters, Dena Powell, Lisa Brassard (Jim), and Lotte Robertson (Stan); six grandchildren, Courtney, Shannon, Kristina, Megan, Trevor and Eric; nine great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
Mom was Born in Copenhagen, Denmark on May 19, 1927, then moved to Saeby, a fishing village in northern Jutland with her family when she was young. Her most cherished memories were of Saeby, a place that shaped her into an adventurous and brave young woman that saw her through a turbulent time of the great depression and second world war.
After the war, mom met her husband in Copenhagen, and together they embarked on the long journey to Canada where they eventually settled in Port Alberni, BC. Together they built a good life and many happy memories with their growing family in Cherry Creek, and summer cottage on Hornby Island.
Having received her Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate in Denmark, mom played a key role in establishing the first children's daycare centre in Port Alberni where she cared for children including those with special needs.
Mom spent the last year of her life living at Heritage Place assisted living, where she was warmly welcomed by the staff and residents.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Woodley, Dr. Marsay, Jackie, the staff and care aides at Heritage Place, Dr. Williams and the nurses and staff at West Coast General Hospital for their exceptional care and support.
