September 3, 1937 - June 17, 2024

Larry Alexander Mackenzie, beloved Husband, Dad, Papa, Son, Uncle, and Brother was born on September 3, 1937, and peacefully passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters on June 17, 2024.

Larry was humble and kind, and a devoted family man. He married his loving wife, Wendy (Milligan) on June 25, 1960, and their enduring love and partnership was evident with 64 years of marriage.

Larry was a proud Dad to his three daughters, Cathy Bernar (Marco), Alison Mackenzie Hoy (Brian), and Maureen Mackenzie (Roberto), and he found immense joy in being a Papa to his Grandchildren, Matt, Joey (Shayla), Sarah (Chris), Luchia (Daniel), and Portia. Larry loved his family deeply and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Larry is survived by his Sister, Maxine Munsil (Bud), Aunt Donna Fitch, Sister-in-laws Yvonne Milligan, Marilyn Mackenzie, and nieces and nephews Mike, Janice, Kenneth, Kevin, Janet and Brian and their families and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his infant son, Denis, parents Ken & Lila Mackenzie, in-laws Joe & Lil Milligan, his brother Jack Mackenzie, brother-in-laws Larry Milligan and Doug Milligan, nephew Rick Milligan, and his furry first mate, Tonka.

Larry, known to many as Captain, was a man of adventure and dedication. His passion for flying led him to obtain his pilot license at the young age of 16, and together with his friend Ray Bowerman, they bought a plane before even considering buying a car. Larry's love for the skies was evident throughout his life, and he cherished the freedom and joy that flying brought him.

In the 1950's, he proudly served as a Gunnery Officer and Lieutenant on the HMCS Magnificent Aircraft Carrier. Sailing from Halifax to London via the Caribbean islands his time on the Magnificent showcased his naval passions, bravery, and his dedication to his country.

Larry was the successful business owner of Mars Industries - 3rd generation family Logging Contractor in the Alberni Valley. He made a significant impact in the Logging Industry and left a lasting legacy. He served on the Board of Directors for Truck Loggers Association and retired as 2nd Vice President.

He proudly sold the road building company Star Contracting to his lifelong friend Bill Coates. His incredible hard working ethic and commitment to excellence inspired those around him.

Larry's passion for logging was evident in his dedication to his work and deep understanding of the industry. He was known for his expertise and innovative approaches to logging, constantly seeking ways to improve efficiency. His love for the logging industry was unmatched, and he took great pride in his contributions.

Larry's love for the ocean and his Green Cove property was unparalleled. It was here that he found solace and tranquility, creating cherished memories with his family and friends. Green Cove held a special place in Larry's heart, and he embraced the beauty of nature that surrounded him.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Larry had a profound passion for hunting. Every year, he eagerly anticipated the annual moose hunting trips with his dear friend, Mike Krevinsky and Son-In-Law, Marco Bernar and his Grandsons. These trips became treasured traditions filled with camaraderie.

From 1994 to 2020 Larry proudly delivered essential services to remote communities throughout the Barkley Sound on his beloved ex-U.S naval landing craft "Mars Rustler". Accompanied by his loyal dog "Tonka" aka First Mate and 2nd Mate & Friend Ron McGarrigle

Larry's legacy and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid him farewell, let us cherish the memories we shared, the love he gave, and the inspiration he provided.

Rest in peace, dear Larry.

As per Larry's request there will be no service. The Captain is always right and Larry will always be the Captain!
