She leaves behind her 3 sisters Brenda Head, Jane Fread and Kristine Larson and her brother Robert Squires and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Audrey Rooney, her brother Tom Squires and her very close lifelong friend Joyce Ballan.
Laurel is survived by several grandchildren; Elise, Andrew, Katie, Miranda, Amy, Isaac and Zara and great grandchildren Eva, Conner and Steven. Laurel is survived by John's sister Lorreta Corsara and her husband Gino Crosara and nieces in Italy.
Laurel was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1937 to Lawrence and Claire Jackson. Laurel spent much of her childhood with her dad, Lawrence and her step mom Amalia (Molly) Jackson. Laurel and John were married in 1964 and relocated to Port Alberni in 1966 where they started their new life together.
Laurel was a devoted stay at home mom for many years caring for her husband and 4 sons. She later worked cleaning the Regional district offices with her sister Audrey and good friend Edith Duval.
John and Laurel enjoyed traveling several times to visit family in Italy and New Zealand and vacationing in Arizona as snowbirds in the winter. In 2015 Laurel and John and several friends embarked on a lifelong dream of Laurel's to take to a cruise through the Panama Canal.
Laurel enjoyed watching classic movies and spending time in casinos at the slot machines. Laurel and John and their children have always enjoyed leisure activities like camping, skiing, hosting family events and hosting some of the largest dinner gatherings anyone has ever seen! She enjoyed reading, puzzles and playing card games with family and friends.
Laurel was a loving and caring person who never hesitated to invite others to share a meal or a conversation and always welcomed family and friends to the dinner table. Many of her son's friends and cousins frequented the Brazzale home to receive a hot meal which on many occasions included a good natured scolding or reminder to dress warm and wear their toque outside.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at West Coast General Hospital for their kindness and compassion in treating Laurel and keeping her comfortable during her final days.
Laurel touched many lives with her giving nature and straight forward, honest upfront attitude. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
In respect of Laurel's final wishes there will be no funeral service or celebration of life. The family will plan for a spreading of her ashes at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate and support a local charity of your choice.
