It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lauretta Di Rocco, our wife, mother and Nonna.
She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of almost 65 years, Benedetto, her children Giovanni (Rosa), Angela (Glen) and Mario (Tina) and grandchildren Dominique, Devan, Bryce and Dara.
She is survived by brother Giuseppe, sister-in-law Maria (John and Paola), extended family in Italy, as well as her dear friend Anna.
She is predeceased by her parents Giovanni and Angiolina, sister Regina and brothers Emilio and Raffaello.
Laura was born in San Massimo, Italy where she met her future husband Ben near the fountain outside the family home. Married in 1956, son Giovanni arrived the following year.
Taking a chance, the new family moved to Port Alberni to begin a life in Canada. Daughter Angela arrived and soon after Mario was born to complete the family. Laura was the quintessential Italian mamma and Nonna. The door was always open to whoever came to the house and were greeted with a smile and something to eat.
Mamma's home was in the kitchen and what a cook she was! You never left the house hungry. As the family still owned a house in Italy, there were many trips back to see friends and family which maintained a connection to their home towns.
After the children had grown, Laura and Ben joined the Sunshine Club and had many wonderful trips exploring beautiful British Columbia.
Laura was happiest when her home was filled with her children and grandchildren and extended family. Mamma had a way of making any one she met for the first time become part of the family and we will miss her dearly.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Freddie Meyer for his dedication to our dear mother and a special "abbraccio" to Amalia, even though far away, has been by her side.
"Mamma, sei sempre con noi, nei nostri cuori e pensieri. L'amore per te non finisce mai. Vi amiamo per l'eternita."
