Laurette Gauthier

April 10, 1927 – February 8, 2020
Laurette Gauthier passed away unexpectedly in Port Alberni on Saturday February 8, 2020 at the age of 92 years.
Predeceased by husband Remi, son Rick, 9 siblings and daughter-in-law Teresa; survived by son Denis (Lida); grandchildren Darryl (Emily), Lisa (Brent), Ryan and Mitchel; 4 great grandchildren; her brother Amie (Monica) as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Born in Laventure, Saskatchewan, Laurette moved to the Alberni Valley in the early 1950’s to come stay with her sister to help with her expanding family. After, she started work at the West Coast Dry Cleaners and sometime later, returned to Saskatchewan. Upon receiving a letter from the owner of the dry cleaners asking her to come back to work, she returned once again to Port Alberni where she met Remi. The couple were married in Notre Dame church and children arrived shortly after that. Even though Laurette was a dedicated mother, she continued working at the Dry Cleaners as well at the Tyee Village Motel before retiring. She enjoyed her retirement because it let her spend time with family. She also spent time cooking her wonderful Tourtiere pies, her home grown well-loved pickled beets, great desserts, and especially, the most favorite family snack was her potato pancakes. She especially enjoyed knitting slippers for every one of her immediate and extended family members. She also liked playing cards, doing puzzles and was always active helping family and walking everywhere.
She had her great sense of humor till the end and will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, February 22 at Notre Dame Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fir Park/Echo Village Foundation, 4411 Wallace St, Port Alberni, BC., V9Y 7Y5. Stories and condolences may be left for the family at www.chapelofomemories.ca.
