Leonard died on November 28, 2022 after a lengthy struggle with health issues. Leonard was born in Port Alberni on July 3rd, 1948. In his formative years he loved participating in all sports especially soccer, tennis and softball. In later life he switched to slo pitch, skiing and snowboarding. Throughout his life he kept his musical interests by playing piano and his keyboard which traveled with him. He worked for many years in mill construction all over B.C. using his welding and mechanical skills. In retirement, he enjoyed spending summers in the Czech Republic and winters in Mexico. When he wasn't traveling, he enjoyed working on his hobby farm in Port Alberni, getting wood, fixing things and simple things like meeting friends for coffee.
He is predeceased by his parents Gerry and Lucy Gagne. He is survived by his partner Marcela Somonova who helped him see the world. His sisters Gloria Maher and Charlene (Fred) Berg, and his brother Sheldon (Janet) Gagne. Leonard was a great uncle to Jamie, Jason and Kelly (Melissa) Maher, Amanda (Mike) Staffanson, Jessica ( Richard) Gagne, Owen (Heather), Austin (Thu An) Gagne and Collin (Catherine) Gagne.
Leonard enjoyed his life and laughing, and did not like being sick. Throughout his illness he had great care from Aim Clinic, Dr. M. Lambiotte and family physician Dr. Hermann Nell in Port Alberni.
We would like to say thanks for the attention he received in West Coast General Hospital and North Island Comox Valley Hospital. We would also like to give thanks to the staff of Casa Loma Seniors Village for all the help with his care, and to Robert Schaffler and the Comox Valley Funeral Home for the service we received from them.
He will be sadly missed by close friends like Charlene and Barry Yeo, who helped to support him and many friends and family members that he touched in his life.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
