January 5, 1943 - July 12, 2022
On July 12, 2022 our lives changed forever with the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Lorne Blakey. Lorne was born January 5, 1943 in Vancouver, BC to Thelma and Fred Blakey. The eldest of seven children Lorne valued the importance of family from a young age. He was raised in Port Alberni, BC then in 1972 moved with Gloria and son, John to Fernie, BC.
Lorne will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Gloria, children John (Monica) and Karen (Malcolm) as well as grandchildren Zack and Kennedy and his faithful companion, Angus. He is survived by siblings: Gordon (Barb), Doug (Annette), Beryl (Bill), Sylvia (Frank), Judy (Steve) and Jim (predeceased Sylvia).
Lorne had a variety of careers from manufacturing cabinets, automotive service manager and lastly probably his favorite owner/operator of TJ's Towing. He will be remembered as the announcer at Blazer hockey games, showing his yellow low rider truck and towing many cars during heavy snow falls. Lorne enjoyed car shows, watching the Canucks and Blue Jays, the intrigue of Oak Island, and visiting his home in Montana. Whether he was enjoying Friday night coffee visits or sitting on the deck in Montana, as long as his family were there, he was happy.
"There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone, the light remains".
