Lydia Shumuk was born in Port Alberni on June 23, 1957. She grew up with her siblings Helen, Vlad, Yaroslav, Tony and Victor and attended Alberni District Secondary School. After graduating she moved to the interior and then worked near Sparwood driving mining trucks.
She attended Okanagan College and graduated as an Electronics Engineering Technologist. She began work in remote communities based from North Bay with the North Warning System. Later she worked in Malaysia also for Canac/Microtel, Vancouver and Calgary for Telus. Two years ago she moved from her home in Beiseker, AB, to her dream home in Edgewood, BC with her two dogs. She passed away January 16th after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer.
Lydia is much missed by her friends and family. She was a likeable, warm and easygoing person. She loved gardening, had an amazing green thumb, and was an accomplished cook. A celebration of life is planned for June, all welcome, please contact lh.shumuk@gmail.com for details.
