March 4, 2019
Mabel passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on Monday March 4, 2019 at the age of 87.

She is predeceased by her loving husband John, her parents Laura and Gustav Rudd, brothers Irving, Clarence, Clifford and sisters Olga and Thelma.

She is survived by her daughters Joanne and Heather and son Dean. Two granddaughters Brittany and Courtney, sister Hazel, numerous neices and nephews and sister-in-law Tina Nikkel.

Mabel grew up in Archerwill, SK and moved to Port Alberni in the 50's with her family, where she met her future husband John at a dance. She worked 5 years at the Plywood plant before becoming a stay at home mom, where she made her world's famous potato salad, lefsa and pastry dough. She was also a volunteer with the women's axillary with the Cherry Creek Fire Department.

Mabel loved her family, Port Alberni, curling and baseball. Her passion for sports was undeniable. She played many years with different softball and slow pitch teams. She earned an MVP and was an inspiration to future female ball players. She was also an avid curler, who was proud of her 8 ender and the day she got to meet her curling hero Randy Furby. For the past 2 years she was invited to throw out the first pitch at the Victoria Harbourcats games. We were immensely proud of her.

She liked to spend her afternoons at Tim Hortons and evenings at the casino.

She will be forever missed and loved by her family.

Special heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Wellesley, especially Cheryl (shortstop) and Janet (catcher). And to the doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, 5th floor north.

A celebration of life will be determined at a later date by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mabel's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
