It is with broken hearts that we announce that Marie-Jeanne passed in her home in Port Alberni on Monday, November 23, 2020 at the age of 91. She will be forever missed by her children, Claudette (Dave) Sjerven, Andre (Debra) Contreras, Denis (Judy) Contreras; grandchildren, Claudine (Tyler) Brown, Danielle (Steve) Tramer and Tobias (Erin) Contreras; great grandchildren, Ethan, Ryann, Jaxson, Kolten, Ryleigh, and Quinn; sisters, Pierrette Romaganoli and Jacqueline Grugeard; brother, Jean Pierre Bernard; ex son in law, Denny Prior, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in France. Marie-Jeanne was predeceased by her husband, Adrien Contreras.
Born in France, Marie-Jeanne immigrated to Port Alberni in 1952 where she happily spent the rest of her years. She survived the Second World War as a teenager and shared many stories of the war. After raising her children, she travelled extensively with her husband and friends all over the world.
Her passion was cooking, and she was an excellent French cook. The family enjoyed many many family dinners together over the years. Not only was she an artist in the kitchen, Marie-Jeanne was also an amazing painter and sketcher. She was a member of the French Club, the Sunshine Club, and joined the Catholic Church in her later years.
The family would like to thank all the Home Support Workers for their care and friendship. Marie-Jeanne will be greatly missed by many.
A gathering of family and friends will take place when it is once again safe to do so.
