August 27, 1936 – March 16, 2017

Lola Nelson passed away peacefully after a brief stay at Echo Village on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the age of 80.

Predeceased by mother Annie McCabe (Caines), father Frederick McCabe, and brother Frederick (Freddie) McCabe; Lola is survived by her loving children Laurel (Chuck) Gallagher, Nadine Levasseur, Richard (Johanna) Nelson, and Eileen (Ray) Ursel; grandchildren Bryce, Nikki, and Kali Levasseur, Kyla, Matthew, and Zachary Ursel, and Charles Gallagher; great-grandson Oliver Levasseur; sister Eileen (Kelvin) Coffin; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Lola attended and graduated from teacher’s college in 1958. She went on to teach in Nova Scotia until she married her husband Raymond in 1960. After welcoming their eldest daughter, Lola and Raymond moved to Port Alberni in 1968. The young family welcomed three more children to complete their family. Lola continued to work as a substitute teacher in Port Alberni, as well as volunteer in the community. She was a member of the woman’s auxiliary at the St. Alban’s Church and would volunteer within the church often. Lola had many hobbies that she was passionate about; such as reading, sewing, baking, playing bridge, and doing crosswords. Her greatest passion in life was her family. She was a caring, kind and loving mother who would do anything to make her family happy. She will always be remembered for being considerate, generous to anyone who needed a helping hand, and for her unwavering faith in the Lord. She will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Chapel of Memories, 4005 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC.
