In Loving Memory ~
Mark David Nicolaisen, 65, passed away on November 17, 2023. He left us too soon
Mark David Nicolaisen was born on 11/23/1957 in Sarnia, Ontario to (father) Hans Nicolaisen and (mother) Mary-Catherine MacAllister he was the 4th of their 5 children.
In his childhood Mark grew up playing ice hockey on Lake Huron and the family had a pair of pet racoons (Rocky & Stone) he would always reminisce fondly.
From a young age Mark was intrigued and fascinated by mechanical components and how they operate, almost immediately disassembling his brand new 10 speed bike his grandfather had bought him "his grandfather was not impressed" 25 years later he would strip his Harley Davidson Shovelhead down to its individual parts and rebuild it from the ground up.
Mark was a fan of classic rock music, his favorite band being Led Zeppelin. Mark was a social man who spent time at the Arlington 'back in the day', as well as being involved in the Port Alberni Toy Run.
Early in his career he worked for Fiberglass of Canada in Sarnia cleaning out the ovens and then quickly took an apprenticeship in floor laying. In his mid 20's he moved to Calgary and started (D&M Creations) a dry walling and floor laying business, making intricate furniture and ornate carvings on the side with his best friend Don Matthews.
Years later he would then move further west to travel British Columbia and be closer to friends settling down in Port Alberni. Mark worked as a commercial floor layer for West Coast Floors, The Flooring Depot and later Island Tile. Mark was known for his kindness/compassion/humor and touched the lives of those around him.
Mark had a passion for motorcycles, wood carving, music/collecting albums and he enjoyed spending his time with family and friends.
Predeceased by: (parents) Hans, Mary-Catherine and (brother) Jim Nicolaisen.
Survived by: (son) Mark Nicolaisen, (brother) Wayne Nicolaisen (sisters) Christine Walker, Terry Douglas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
