Mark Hutcheson

April 17, 1958 - September 5, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Mark Hutcheson (April 17, 1958- September 5, 2024). He passed peacefully surrounded by love in the ICU at Victoria General Hospital.

Mark was predeceased by his parents, Ken and June Hutcheson and brother Gordon Hutcheson. He leaves behind his loving wife of 31 years, Jan, children Teresa (and husband Tom) and Chris; grandchildren Nolan and Leif. He will be sadly missed by siblings Brian (Margaret), Jane, Graham (Kim), Sarah (Dennis), and nieces and nephews, Angela, Jessica, Emily, Emma, Nigel, Caleb, Allison and Hannah.

Mark was born on Vancouver Island and grew up on Sproat Lake. His family is one of the original families of Port Alberni and had deep ties to the community - up and down the Island. Photography, pottery and dragon boating were just a few of his hobbies.

A cook by trade, Mark had the opportunity to cook for people in restaurants, logging camps, on ships and had the experience of a lifetime on a Parks Canada boat going through the North West Passage. His second career was one of service to the people of Qualicum Beach, working in a senior's center with older individuals he got to know and befriended.

He always had time to talk and had a knack for bumping into people he knew WHEREVER he went! His passions included cooking, travel and collecting and dispensing stories at the slightest provocation. Mark had the biggest, kindest heart and would do almost anything for anyone.

He will be greatly missed by all

A Celebration of Life will be held at Errington War Memorial Hall on September 21, 2024 at 2 pm. Light snacks will be provided after the celebration. In lieu of flowers or donations, Mark would want you to enjoy a sunset wherever you are with someone you love.
