With a smile one never forgets, Mary Harvey Rowland passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2016. Born on December 5, 1921, in Vancouver, B.C., Mary was the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Ronald. Predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon, her daughters Wendy and Susan, and her brother, Gordon; Mary is survived by her sons, Jim (Rita) and Danny (Mary), her grandchildren, Shauna, Leanna (Jason), Gordie (Jennie), Shaelene (Rich), Jennifer, Kevin (Jonelle), Kara (Ian), and Jeremy (Yvonne), and her 12 beautiful great-grandchildren. From her years of employment at the Public Health Unit to her volunteering for the Echo Sunshine Club and her involvement with the Mt. Klitsa Garden Club, our mom, grandma and nana was always welcoming, always accepting, and forever smiling. She loved her gardens and backyard on River Road, chronicling everyone’s lives through photos, faithfully writing letters to people all around the world, and being a lady in all aspects of her life. Our thanks to the staff at Fir Park Village for caring for Mary these past five years. “ Love this Earth as if you won’t be here tomorrow; show reverence for your garden as if you will be here forever” — Scottish proverb In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s name to the Fir Park Village/Echo Village Foundation, 4411 Wallace Street, Port Alberni, B.C., V9Y 7Y5.
