January 2, 2019
Maurice John Watson, the heart of our family, passed in peace on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the wonderful age of 88.

Maurice (Moe) was a man of faith, who loved life, and was devoted to his family. His sense of humour & ability to tell stories, his pride in family, his pleasure in traveling, and his love of good food was legendary.

Maurice was born in Port Alice, BC and worked in the Pulp Mill there until he met the redheaded, Irish, love of his life, Elsie. Together they moved to Port Alberni to raise their family, where he continued his Pulp and Paper Mill career until retiring to Parksville in 1988. Following Elsie's passing in 2010, Maurice returned to Port Alberni, rekindling old friendships and creating many new ones.

Maurice is predeceased by his loving wife, Elsie; great-granddaughter, Hayden; brothers Phil, Bruce, and most recently, Gerry. Maurice will be forever remembered by daughters; Sharon Anderson (Brent), Denise McGiffin (Kelly), and son; Bruce (Christine). He was so proud of his grandchildren, Aaron (Mari), Sarah (Erik), Morgan, Robbie, Ryan (Jen), James (Heidi), Katie, Carly (Matt), and Hope. Maurice's great-grandchildren were his delight - Jackson; Judah; Grady, Colt & Max; Dechlan & Hana; Nora and Maia. Maurice also leaves behind his sister, Gladys, and numerous special nieces and nephews. His many Abbeyfield friends, who have become his second family, also brought Moe much joy.

We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Abbeyfield, Moe's Community Health Workers, Pastor Les Bonnell, and to Ty Watson House.

A private family gathering will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made locally to Abbeyfield Port Alberni or to Alberni Valley Hospice Society (Ty Watson House).
