March 11, 1949 – March 26, 2016 • It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Michael J. Power on March 26, 2016 at the age of 67.

He was preceded in death by his mother Joan, his step-mother Dorothy and his father Patrick. Michael is lovingly remembered by his wife Janice; his sons David (Rae) and Steven (Jordana); his grandchildren Khyla, Owen, Kalem, Samara and Isaac; his sisters Debra, Tara (Denis), Cathy (Jeff) and Maureen; and the many members of his extended family. Michael was born on March 11, 1949 in Windsor, Ontario, he was loving, kind-hearted, compassionate and dedicated. He enjoyed photography and videography, reading on history and visiting museums. Michael was married to Janice P. Power (Huntington) on September 22, 1973; they were married for 42 years.

Michael proudly served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 5 years. He continued his service as a Cadet Officer with the Beaufort Cadet Squadron and later as the Commanding Officer of the Castlegar Cadet Squadron. In retirement he served as the Vice President of the Cumberland Legion. Michael had a passion for aviation. His love for flying saw him open his own flying school in Port Alberni, to spending many summers as a tow pilot in Abbotsford. In 1989, Michael became an instructor pilot at Selkirk College in Castlegar, where he would remain until retirement in 2014.
