MacFADDEN, Myrna: With great sadness we announce that Myrna MacFadden of Port Alberni passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the age of 77. Predeceased by her parents, Mary and Hilmar. Survived by her husband of 54 years, Terry; son David (Cathy) and daughter Katherine (Brendan), all of Port Alberni; her cherished grandchildren, Justin, Rowan, Bethany and Ciara; and many in-laws, nieces, cousins and their families.

Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Myrna spent a joyful childhood in Victoria before moving to Vancouver for her teenage years and early adulthood. She and Terry married in 1964 and lived in Fort St. John and the Lower Mainland before settling in Port Alberni "for just a couple of years." Those years turned into 52 as the couple raised their two children through the 1970s and 1980s.

Myrna was an elementary teacher and taught in School District #70 for many years. Kind and caring, with a great love of learning, she was devoted to her students. Myrna retired in the late 1990s to spend her remaining years with loving family and close friends. She also greatly adored animals and had a natural affinity for them.

Though she grew up on BC's Coast, Myrna was also a Prairie girl at heart, having many fond memories of summers spent with relatives on her grandparents' farm in Manitoba. It was only on the wide-open plains that she felt truly at peace. Myrna was also fiercely proud of her Icelandic heritage and passed this pride on to her children and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Myrna's Life will take place at 1pm on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Trinity Church in Port Alberni.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Myrna's name can be made to any chapter of the BC SPCA.
