July 21, 1951 - August 2, 2024
In loving memory ~
On the evening of August 2nd, 2024 we said goodbye to Norman Frederick Schwarz. Surrounded by his loving family, Norm passed away peacefully after an extended struggle with dementia.
Norm was predeceased by his parents, Sharky (Frederick) and Kitty Schwarz. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Velma; daughters, Kristin (Robin) and Miki, son Tyler; grandchildren, Alia and Matthew; as well as his sister, Terry (Doug) and several nieces and nephews and large extended family and friends that were considered family.
Norm was born and raised in Port Alberni. After graduating from ADSS in 1969, he spent two years at Malaspina college before starting work for BC Tel. Norman worked a long 37 year career with BC Tel/Telus before retiring at age 57, and a short 18 months later started his own business to do contract work during his retirement.
In 1973 Norm married the love of his life Velma. They enjoyed a wonderful life together, raising their three children and spending their free time camping with friends. Norm also enjoyed playing many sports and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.
Norm was friendly, easy-going and quick to help which endeared him to everyone he met. A hard-working man with unmatched integrity that could (and would) find humour in any situation, he was always there to lend a hand or share his knowledge.
While Norm's passing leaves a sadness in many, he had a wonderful life filled with lots of family, friends, laughter and great times. Though his passing allowed for relief from his health struggles, he will be missed. Norm's family would like to thank Dr. Kristine Woodley, Nurse Jackie, and the wonderful staff at Westhaven and WCGH for all of their kindness and unwavering support through this time.
Please join us for his Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 17th at McLean's Mill, 1pm to 3pm. Come, honour Norm's love of sharing a story, and share your memories of him.
