In loving memory ~
With great sadness, we share with you that Oran passed away peacefully at WCGH, Port Alberni, on February 14, 2023, with family by his side, one month before his 85th birthday.
Oran was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and nephew.
He was born and raised in Humboldt, Sk. and came to Port Alberni, BC in 1957, with a cousin seeking employment, which he quickly found at Alberni Pulp and Paper. Following his love of sports he played ball and several years of hockey with the Luckies/Labatts. As he moved through life in Port Alberni he also enjoyed fishing and golf.
Oran and Marlene travelled in their RV to Alaska and spent many winter months in Yuma. His love of geocaching kept him moving. Oran was an Amateur Radio Operator for 46 years as VE7DGQ and then VE7NF.
Predeceased by Mom Alma, Dad Michael, and 15 aunts and uncles. Left to remember happy times are his loving wife of 63 years, Marlene, and children of whom he was very proud: Glen (Linda), Deborah, Denise, and Stephen (Tara). Grandchildren: Christine, Michelle, Jenna, James, Matthew, Kennedy, and the newest little addition to light up his life, great-granddaughter, Emmy. Also brother Duane (Dianne) and family, as well as one aunt and one uncle.
Oran was a man of the highest integrity who loved his family beyond measure. He had the best sense of humour and a big heart. He always knew the right thing to say. He was a true gentleman.
Thank you to Dr. Damian White, and Missy for years of unlimited encouragement and caring support. To paramedics Emma and Paul, and ALL WCGH staff in emerg and on the floor, your detail to his personal care is greatly appreciated. To Fir Park Village Staff, for assisting with his afternoon visits, we thank you.
Oran requested cremation and no service. We will honor his wishes. If you are so inclined please consider honouring Oran's memory with a donation, in his name, to Alzheimer's BC, Heart and Stroke Fund, or WCG Hospital Foundation.
