Pearl passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, at West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni.
Pearl is survived by her husband of 52 years, Chris; children, Trudy Johannessen, Sheila Johannessen, and Daniel Johannessen; grandchildren, Darrenn Sawyer, Jenna Sawyer, Colin Quinn, and Darci Quinn; siblings, Gorden (Elizabeth), Margaret, and Dawn (Stuart).
Pearl was predeceased by her parents, Vladimir and Gladys Kifiak and her sister, Caroline Kifiak.
Pearl was born and spent her entire life in Port Alberni where she raised her children and assisted her husband with his business ventures. She took a special interest in the extra-curricular sports and artistic activities of her children and was happy to assist in any way possible. Pearl also loved to organize parties and celebrations for family and friends. Pearl had several craft related hobbies and created many homemade gifts for family and friends.
Pearl enjoyed a special bond with her grandchildren and was able to watch them grow and mature with a sense of pride in their accomplishments. They were a source of joy and comfort, especially as she became ill later in life. She constantly put the needs of others ahead of her own.
The family would like to thank Dr Woodley, Dr Williams, Nurse Jackie, the nurses and staff at WCGH, and the home care nurses for the care and compassion shown to Pearl throughout her illness and hospital stay. A special thank you to the ambulance paramedics and the first responders for the kindness and care shown to Pearl.
