Ragbir "Rug" Singh Bawa passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2018 in his home in Port Alberni surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 20, 1938 in Duncan, BC and settled in Port Alberni for the past 60 years.
He is predeceased by his infant son, and his daughter Lisa. He is survived by his wife Taro "Terry" of 57 years, his children Sandra (Sarban), Rick (Renu) and Reg (Anita), plus 6 grandchildren, Tareem, Enya, Yamila, Lavanya, Kavin, Ishaan, and his loving extended family.
We will remember and cherish our memories of him as an unconditionally loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, and uncle. He will be remembered as a dedicated community member including volunteer service with the Kiwanis Club as past president, youth softball and soccer coach, an avid sports fan (Blue Jays), a hardworking heavy-duty mechanic committed to Somass Mill for 42 years, and foster dad to 16 children. Everyone who walked in the door was treated like family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28th, 2018, at 11:00 am. Join us at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home at 4005-6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC, V9Y 4M6. The funeral service will be followed by a church service at the €‹Alberni Valley Gurdwara Society at 4741 Montrose Street (and 5th Avenue), Port Alberni, BC, V9Y 1M7.
