Ralph Christian Bouwman passed away in Port Alberni, April 16, 2020 at the age of 90.
Predeceased by his wife Doreen, he is survived by his 4 children Sharon (Ken), Brett (Ruth), Lynn (Sheldon), and Pauline (Mike); his grandchildren Sean, Evan, Rachel, Krystal, Esther, Joseph, Erin, Taylor, Austin and Haley; his brother Roy (Peggy), as well as nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Ralph's parents immigrated from Holland and he was born in Edmonton Alberta in 1930. He had 5 brothers and a sister and spent most of his childhood growing up in Vancouver. He graduated with a degree from UBC in Agricultural Science. He was an accomplished basketball and baseball player and was a member of the UBC Thunderbird basketball team during his time at school. He married Doreen in 1954 and they lived most of their life in Ladner and Langley before retiring to Port Alberni in 2009.
Ralph loved the game of golf and played as often as possible. He also made many friends floor curling with the Sunshine Club. Ralph will be missed deeply by his family as the incredibly loving and supportive father and grandfather he was, he truly loved his family and friends. Ralph will also be missed for his sense of humour and for the fun and laughter he brought to others. In support of his beloved wife Doreen (aka Skipper) he regularly volunteered for the Alzheimer's association. During her time in extended care, Ralph visited her every day no matter what - she was the love of his life and now they are together again - for all time. Until we meet again Dad
