July 29, 1930 - November 30, 2019
Rtd Supt RCMP - Regimental 17253 (0749).
Dad was born in St John's Newfoundland, on July 29, 1930. He passed away peacefully on November 30, 2019 at the Arrowsmith Lodge in Parksville, BC.
Dad's faith grounded him through all his twists, turns and bends during his life's journey. A great life indeed.
He was a Newfoundlander to his core, a true son of Newfoundland. I think about those bent stunted trees along the coast of Newfoundland. My father paid close attention to the "bent" part. He always chose the saddest looking Christmas tree within the forests of Newfoundland. He did this deliberately emphasizing the little forlorn tree that would not be chosen by someone else so as to prove the value of things that seem valueless. He would often remind us that if the trees are bent, they are not broken, so they are not valueless. "Remember that," he would say, "Because if you are bent, you can straighten up and come back. But if you are broken, you will fall over and die." He truly was a gift. Along the way, Dad endured sheer delightful legs within his journey. He also navigated a few storms. He loved life.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Cecil Williams, his brothers, Gerald and Eddie and his sisters, Mary, Ruth and Vivian.
Dad is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan, his daughters, Heather (Dennis) Williams of Kamloops, BC, Sherry Williams of Port Alberni BC, son, Stephen (Lynda) Williams of Victoria BC, Grandchildren - Devan (Sheri) Ritchie, Cassi Ritchie (Vancouver) Ryan (Melissa) Kegler, Surrey, BC, Stefanie (Caleb)Antwi, Langley, Samantha Williams, Alex williams of Victoria and two great grandsons, Eli Antwi and Rhett Kegler. Dad is also survived by, his sister-in-law, Janet Schellenberger, Cambridge Ont, by one brother, Eric Williams of Toronto, Ontario and one sister, Hazel Wright of Brockville Ontario.
Who, What, When, Where, Why and How - always found a place in his detailed life collection of notebooks, primarily registered within his mind. He truly was a human memory card grounded to a big byte of a heart.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday December 15 2019, at Yates Memorial Service,1000 Allsbrook.
Our family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in dads name to the Arrowsmith Health Care Foundation Society 266b Moilliet St Parksville BC. The care Dad received there filled his cup with love as he took his last breath.
