With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Randy Gerald Ball of Port Alberni. Randy was born on February 15, 1960 in Vancouver BC, to Shirley and Gerald Ball. He left us peacefully on December 28, 2024 surrounded by his family. Randy is survived by his beloved wife Astrid; daughters Jenni and Christi, granddaughters Mackenzie and Emma; as well as his brother Steven (Laura), nephews Spencer and Evan, and niece Jane.
A graduate of Ballenas High School in Parksville, Randy had a long and successful career as a journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic, working on all manner of highways maintenance vehicles serving Vancouver Island. Randy was known for his remarkable ability to fix or fabricate practically anything - a talent he developed starting as a young boy who preferred taking his toys apart and rebuilding them, rather than playing with them.
In 1996, Randy married the love of his life, Astrid. Together they enjoyed many joyous years, with their daughters, their granddaughters and their cats.
Outside of work and family life, Randy was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping and fishing. For many years, he took great pleasure in bringing friends and family to his cabin near Toquart Bay, where he would lead unforgettable boating and fishing adventures among the rugged islands of Barkley Sound.
Randy was one of a kind, with a gentle soul and a heart of gold.
He will be greatly missed
by all who knew him.
