With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Real Joseph Ruel as he left us unexpectedly at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, January 23rd, 2023.
Predeceased by his parents Roger and Muriel; sister Paulette; nephew Daniel and niece Christine. He leaves to forever miss him, his wife of 50 years, Darlene. Real is survived by his children Nicole, Trevor (Melissa) and Debra (Brad); grandchildren Taylor, Tristan, Griffin, Chase and Kohen; his sister Jocelyn (Denny); his brothers Ron (Marilyn), Urgel (Helen) and Ivan (Linda), along with many other family members and friends.
Real was born December 16th, 1950 in Debden, SK and moved to Port Alberni, BC at the age of 4 and made Beaver Creek his forever home. The ocean and the racetrack came in a close second.
Real was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He was a quiet man with an infectious laugh and a presence about him. He loved to live life to the fullest with his family and friends, and spending time with those he loved meant the world to him. Real had many other loves including being on the ocean fishing, enjoying the family cabin, monkeywrenching, fast cars, and athletics, such as hockey, fastball, and curling.
Real followed in his father's footsteps and was a master fabricator and talented welder. A jack of all trades that was always willing to help anyone in need; He was a doer and a giver.
A special thanks to the Beaver Creek Fire Department for putting in their best efforts to try to keep him with us, and to the Chapel Of Memories for handling Real and the family with such care. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of those who have supported them through this difficult time with love, messages, flowers and food. You are all angels.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service. The family asks that you please consider making a donation to the Alberni Valley Drag Race Association in Real's name in lieu of flowers.
