July 3, 1939 - September 6, 2021
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Bob Taschuk, on September 6th 2021, at the age of 82 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; daughters: Kathie and Karen (Robert); grandchildren: Thomas (Sar), Benjamin (Victoria), Callum, Emily, Kyle, Keely, Sara, Erik, Kenan, and Chloe; and great- grandchildren: Serenity, Alex, and Lizzie.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Anne, his brother Ken, sister Brenda, and brother-in-law Ken. Also, his in-laws, John & Mary Mahovlic, John & Kay Fast, Johnny & Lenore Mahovlic, Jean Mahovlic and Joan Mahovlic, many uncles, aunts and nephews.
Raised in Clandonald, Alberta, Bob came to Port Alberni as a relief telegrapher in 1962. He met his wife and stayed to raise his family, becoming very entrenched in the community, and heavily involving himself with a variety of volunteer activities. He was an avid curler and lover of hockey.
He was always looking to help others through his involvement in AA, Kinsmen (Fall Fair), and his trade as a millwright at the Pulp Mill (30+ years accident-free). It was a joy of his to be helping family, friends, and neighbours, along with his Church community, the Knights of Columbus and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He valued all the relationships he formed with those he met and worked.
The family would like to thank the doctors and dedicated and caring nurses at West Coast General Hospital for the kindness shown to both Bob, his wife and family especially through Bob's last month as he struggled courageously through the many health challenges brought on each day.
A prayer service will be held on September 24th, 2021 at 7 pm in the Chapel of Memories at 4005 Sixth Ave, Port Alberni. His funeral mass will be held at 11 am, on September 25th, 2021, at the Holy Family Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church at 4731 Burke Road, Port Alberni. Fr. Michael Tran officiating.
