October 27, 1935 - November 4, 2022
With profound sadness, we announce that our dearest husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away at home in the presence of his family on Friday, November 4, 2022.
He will be forever loved by Jackie, his wife of 69 years ; his children Pattie (Phil) MacKenzie, Port Alberni and John (Debby) Thomson, Nanaimo, grandchildren Kirsten (RJ) Seymour, Smithers, Kimberly (Mike) Bombak, Calgary, and David Thomson, Edmonton as well as his sister Diane (Lew) Morton and her family, Delta and his sister-in-law Sandy (Shorty) Schumacher and family, Quesnel.
He was adored by his ten great-grandchildren Jackson, Alistair and Max Seymour, Tobias, Miriam, Georgia, Philomena and Ignatius Bombak, Alexis and Breanne Thomson.
In spite of many hardships, Ron had fond memories of his childhood in Manitoba, particularly his early years in Flin Flon.
He and Jackie left Winnipeg in 1954, a very young couple driving west with a baby and little else beyond optimism and a capacity for hard work. After a second child and years in Vancouver and Surrey, a job offer brought them to Vancouver Island, first to Nanaimo and then in 1968 to Port Alberni where Ron went into business with West Coast Cleaners.
He loved his family above all and provided a wonderful home and life, supportive and helpful without question. He cherished the many close and lasting friendships made during his decades long involvement with the Kinsmen Club , as well as Gyro.
Ron's zest for life, friends and family was evident during the years at the cabins at Great Central Lake and Kildonan, travels and cruises throughout the world, and the much loved winters in Yuma.
He will be forever missed and remembered for his impeccable character defined by his honesty, integrity, honour; by his love and caring for his family, his hard work, ingenuity and intelligence and his love of a good joke.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
