In loving memory ~
December 1938 - March 2025
Ron was born in Natal, BC, a coal mining town. He was the son of Charles Kowall and Mary Hrdlicka. In his younger years he loved fishing in the rivers nearby: hiking in the mountains with his pals and building forts in the woods.
His love of the forest later took him to UBC where he received a degree, then worked for the B.C. Government as a pedologist. He went all over B.C. taking soil samples and others in his crew counted birds, plants and animals in areas that may be logged.
Meanwhile he was married and had 2 children, Sandra and Nick. In 1993 he married his second wife Theresa in Victoria. They took trips all over the world even before Ron retired and moved to Ladysmith where they lived for 20 years until their recent move to Port Alberni to be close to family in their senior years.
Ron passed away March 16 in Nanaimo Regional Hospital ICU. Funeral was held on Wednesday March 26 with his daughter and son in attendance as well as members of Theresa's family. Thank you for all of the floral arrangements and heartfelt sympathy cards. It means a lot to his family and wife.
