August 8, 1958 - April 20, 2025

In loving memory ~

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Frederick Ballan, who left us peacefully on April 20, 2025, at the age of 66. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Tom touched the lives of all who knew him with his strength, dedication, sharp wit and no-nonsense way about him.

Born in Kenora, Ontario, on August 8, 1958, Tom grew up with a spirit of adventure and a deep connection to the people around him. Though he spent much of his early life in Port Alberni, it was in Kamloops, where he lived for the last 20 years.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife and high school sweetheart, Dianne Shick, with whom he built a quiet and meaningful life. He leaves behind his children, William Ballan (partner Taylor Anderson) and Jamee Morley (husband Joel Morley), who brought him immense pride, as well as his grandchildren—Henry and Miles Morley, Charli and Dakota Ballan, and Harper Waslenchuk —who lit up his world. He also shared time and connection with Dianne's children, Chad Kaiser and Krista Kaiser (partner Brent Waslenchuk), enjoying family meals and time spent together. Tom is also survived by his brothers Albert Ballan (wife Gail Ballan), and Phil Ballan. He will be fondly remembered by everyone that knew him including his nieces, extended family, and the many friends whose lives he touched along the way.

Tom's friendships were built on loyalty, shared experiences, and mutual respect. Whether catching up over coffee or beer, swapping stories by a fire, or spending time outdoors hunting, he connected with people in quiet, genuine ways that left a lasting impression.

His life was defined not just by the years he lived, but by the lives he touched. Tom had a deep appreciation for the simple things: a quiet afternoon, the company of family, a good conversation, and the beauty of the outdoors. He was a straight shooter with a strong work ethic and the kind of man who let his actions speak louder than words.

Even in his absence, Tom's influence remains—in every familiar joke, cherished tradition, and the values he passed on through how he lived.

In lieu of a celebration of Tom's life, the family asks that you take a moment to hug your loved ones, share a story, or enjoy a walk in nature—just as Tom would have wanted.

Rest easy, Tom. You were deeply loved, and you will be dearly missed.
