Condo's at Harbour Quay doesn't make sense

How does Port Alberni City Council think the development of condos in place of stores in that area is good for the economy?

To the Editor,

Re: Request for proposals out for marine building.

At Harbour Quay yesterday for lunch I was glad to see a few more parking spaces by All Mex’d Up and Cecilia’s. There are 10 or more established businesses in that area that hire people and serve their customers.

How does Port Alberni City Council think the development —as I understand it—of condos in place of stores in that area is good for the economy?

If the condos are built above the stores, how is that good for their business? This just doesn’t make sense to me.

Our mayor keeps saying that the city supports small, local businesses. Could someone explain to us how this plan does that?
