To the Editor,

As I was reading the Nov. 1, 2023 issue of the Alberni Valley News, I found myself ever so grateful for the reporting of this paper and for those willing to stand against hate in our community.

I so appreciate Terry Farrell’s submission (Setting the record straight on SOGI resource, Our Voice) in the interests of countering the misinformation that surrounds this resource.

Thank you for the wisdom and courage of Tseshaht First Nation in taking an unequivocal stand against the hate speech propagated by Action4Canada (Controversial speaker banned by Tseshaht, Nov. 1) and to Port Alberni City Council’s quest to keep city-owned facilities “free of hate.”

May each of us value the gift that is each other and do all we can to create a peace-filled community that has space for everyone, to heed the call of Ken Watts “to continue to speak out against hate and racism.”

It is in all of our best interests to do so for the sake of all.
