To the Editor,

The recent passing of City of Port Alberni Councillor John Douglas was devastating news to so many of us in our community. His tireless efforts to develop the former plywood mill site, now known as Canal Waterfront Park, continued to be a major project for John.

Members in the community enjoy the wonderful waterfront views and events such as the polar bear swim: a gift left to us through John Douglas's efforts.

Many members of the public have voiced support of the idea commemorating Coun. Douglas's contribution by renaming this park John Douglas Park or Douglas Park.

It is my hope that city council will support this change.

N. Anderson,

Port Alberni
