To the Editor,
The letter to the editor of Jan. 3, 2024 stating “Echo Pool vital for life” is factually erroneous. It implies the unfortunate youth that drowned in Sproat Lake, drowned because he didn’t have swimming lessons. That youth drowned because he was far out on Sproat Lake in a canoe with two other youths without life jackets on.
Secondly, Echo Pool has been closed many days over the months, not due to the fact the pool is about to sink into the primordial mud, but due to the fact that city hall can’t get staff to provide those swimming lessons.
An even larger reality given ever climbing property taxes in Port Alberni, and many comparable towns, is that city hall has Cadillac tastes in a Chevette town.
