Re: Canadian Maritime Engineering looks to bring shipbreaking to Port Alberni, AV News, Dec. 4, 2024.
I am aghast to think that Canal Beach (John Douglas Park at tiipis) will soon become a wrecking yard for derelict ships. It was a big mistake to sell that land to CME when it should have been converted to a park.
For years, Port Alberni council has said it is trying to attract tourists, and now we have plans to put a wrecking business right beside the only public beach in town. I can't believe this terrible idea is even being considered.
