LETTER: What do I get in return for paying the City of Port Alberni for my tax increase?

My tax bill only went up 110 percent over last year’s bill…

To the Editor,

I would like to congratulate Port Alberni’s mayor and council for holding the line on taxes. My tax bill only went up 110 percent over last year’s bill. God only knows what it would have been without their diligence in pruning the budget.

I would like to know what increase in services I am going to receive for the over doubling my taxes. I have lived in the same townhouse for 31 years and no changes have been done except for aluminum siding put on approximately 25 years ago, so why the increase?

I know all about assessment and what it does to values. I can hardly wait till next year.

John Panagrot,

Port Alberni
